Infinity Ward: New Engine would be Counter Productive

Community manager Robert Bowling, also known as fourzerotwo, is against using a new engine for Call of Duty. The modified Quake 3 engine has been to hell and back with the Call of duty series and it doesn’t look like it is going anywhere soon. In response to a question regarding a new engine, Robert Bowling stated:

That would be counter productive. An engine takes years and years to develop and get right.

While there is truth in his words, a new engine definitely takes time to develop, gamers can’t help but notice the constant reuse of the same engine. In addition, with the new awe inspiring gameplay trailer of Battlefield 3, how do they plan to visually compete with their competition? You would think that with all of the money Activision has made they could wait and invest in a new engine.
