The full game was leaked just after EA had announced dedicated servers. Some individuals are comparing this leak to past ones such as Half-life 2 despite a lack of a source code. Unfortunately, that’s hardly reassuring news as the developer build that leaked had the full single player campaign, multiplayer portion of the game, and a functional CryEngine 3 editor in the package.
There is little doubt now that many have already gotten their hands on it as the torrents have already spread out over the net. This brings the question of piracy into focus. Is it right to pirate this game? While some individuals claim that they have a right to demo the game before it is released, Crytek already had plans to release a multiplayer demo for the PC.
Furthermore, how is EA going to handle this situation? Are they going to crack down on everyone who has downloaded the leak as well? Surely things aren’t sitting well with either Crytek or EA at this point in time. You can check out some spoiler free screens posted by members on facepunch below:
It is unclear how the game managed to leak out on the web. It certainly seems like an inside job. However, their systems could have been hacked. Hopefully, EA gets this whole situation sorted out soon.
Update:
Some Facepunch users are reporting that the build that leaked out is dated January 13th.
Update 2:
Crytek’s community manager has issued an official statement on behalf of the Crytek’s development team.
Crytek has been alerted that an early, unfinished build of Crysis 2 has appeared on Torrent sites. Crytek and EA are deeply disappointed by the news. We encourage fans to support the game and the development team by waiting and playing the final, polished game on March 22.
Crysis 2 is still in development, and the team is hard at work on it and Crysis 2 promises to be the ultimate action blockbuster as the Nanosuit lets you be the weapon as you defend NYC from an alien invasion.
Piracy continues to damage the PC development community.
