Portal 2: User Created Content on All Platforms

Despite Valve’s new found interest in the PS3, all platforms are in for a treat. When it comes to Valve user created content it has usually been PC related. However, this time around both the Xbox 360 and PS3 will be able to jump in on the fun. As it stands now this will be limited to user created maps, but perhaps that will be extended in the future. Let’s hear from Valve’s Chet Faliszek.

The mod tools have to stay on the PC side just because there’s a bunch of dependencies that require the Windows platform, but the content that comes out is agnostic, and so we will be seeing that on all the platforms. Depending on the platform you’re on I should say, will depend on how we’re delivering it. There’s just a lot of value in engaging the community because they’re smart, they’re thinking of really cool things and we want to be able to have everyone share that.

Furthermore, PS3 users will be able to download these user crated levels via steam works. However, Chet Faliszek’s outed even more information to the public. There will be two separate credit sequences for Portal 2, one for playing solo and one for playing in coop.

Both sets of credits [will feature something special], because we’ve got two credits. So we had to do something twice as amazing.

When Faliszek was asked to reveal even more information about the two different ending scenarios he put his foot down.

Noooooo, come on! The cool thing is that we’ll make sure that the game doesn’t get too difficult – it’s more complex – it’s never so difficult that you can’t solve it. You’ll get to the endings. We’d hate to think that people would only watch the endings on YouTube. It’s scary actually, the ending to Portal has over 5 million hits on YouTube.
