Vanquish Consensus: Great!

Sega’s fast-paced third-person action shooter turns out to be quite a marvel. Though successful in initial sales, the disappointing performance from EA’s Medal of Honor has left a bad taste in some shooter fans’ mouths. Thankfully, Vanquish appears to be on track to clean their taste buds with minty-fresh action:

Gamespot – 90/100

Vanquish feels exactly right. It’s fast and furious. It’s totally entertaining. It’s got style oozing from every pore. Vanquish is all game and no filler, and that’s exactly what makes it one of the most gleeful and memorable experiences of the year.

IGN – 8.5/10

Vanquish is a stylish, spectacular looking game with great gunplay and some stunning set pieces. Although the game’s story and character development pale in comparison to the action, I had a great time with Vanquish from the in-game tutorial all the way to the ending credits. Even though Mikami’s latest creation is difficult at times, players looking for a highly entertaining shooter should look no further. Vanquish will keep you on the edge of your multi-thruster booster seat.

1UP – B+

At its peak, Vanquish is a beautifully fast and intense fusion of East and West third-person gameplay — it just isn’t quite as good as the director or the studio’s previous work [Resident Evil 4].

Joystiq – 4.5/5

At the end of six hours, I was feeling as rough as Sam’s voice from the challenge, but also coursing with adrenaline — and a profound desire to walk around high-fiving everyone in sight. Vanquish is a supremely fun and polished action game that makes even Gears of War look like a leisurely stroll, and you simply must not miss it.

The game has also been noted for its elevated difficulty, though this is hardly a problem for fellow ‘Smashers and their gunslinger skills. Sadly, there is no multiplayer element in the game and considering the single player only clocks in at around 6-8 hours, $60 may be asking a bit much.

However, for any fan of blistering fast sci-fi futuristic shooters, Vanquish certainly seems to warrant a playthrough.
