Jack Thompson Declares Victory

Jack Thompson is getting his cocky attitude back as he declares victory over the Medal of Honor Controversy. Not only does he declare victory, he also states that every gamer that doesn’t agree with him can go to hell. Literally.

I win again, as usual. Any gamers who don’t think so and who don’t appreciate what I do to protect our culture can go to Hell. Any gamers that don’t know how to get to Hell on an expedited basis, let me know, and I’ll send along the cheat code to get there more quickly.

Those are some mighty bold claims to make after getting disbarred. Some of you may recall Jack writing a nasty letter to US Defense Secretary Robert Gates about letting gamers play as the Taliban in the new Medal of Honor game.

With all respect for everything else on your plate, but as someone who has represented the surviving family members of such video game-caused massacres, I personally urge you, as Secretary of Defense, to do what is necessary, proper, and legal to stop the release of Medal of Honor on October 12 on the basis that it poses a demonstrable danger to our troops by providing a training tool for those who wish to kill them.

I would also strongly suggest that the Defense Department find out who these Special Ops people are who have acted so foolishly in this regard.

As a result of his actions and various other interest groups, EA was forced to change the name of the enemy team to “Opposing Force”. Unfortunately, it doesn’t just end with a name change. A number of military retailers are also refusing to stock the game in their stores. Service Commander Maj. Gen. Bruce Casella puts it bluntly:

Out of respect to those touched by the ongoing, real-life events presented as a game, Exchanges will not be carrying this product. While we regret any inconvenience this may cause, our position is consistent with the direction stated a month ago. I expect the military families who are authorized to shop the Exchange are aware, and understanding, of the decision not to carry this particular offering.
