Reminder: ATI Catalyst 10.8 Now Available

The latest rendition of ATI Radeon drivers brings another small set of fixes and performance gains… as well as a little surprise.

ATI has never had a very good run with drivers when it came to public perception; even now there are still many gamers out there that view ATI cards as having poor driver support despite continued revamps in the past several years. Regardless, it’s always nice to see performance gains for free.

Some notable improvements in the new 10.8 update include:

  • Performance enhancements for Eyefinity in quad Crossfire configuration (pity most of us will never get to see this)
  • Crossfire profile updates for Singularity, Mafia 2, Final Fantasy XIV Bench, LOTR Online, and AVP
  • Far Cry 2 performance improvements for 4800, 5700, and 5800 series (2-8%, single and Crossfire)
  • StarCraft II forced anti-aliasing support through CCC
  • Left 4 Dead 2 performance increase for 5700 and 5800 series (3-5%, Crossfire)
  • Stormrise (anyone here actually play this?) performance increase for 5500 and 5600 series (single)
  • ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead Crossfire support
  • Adobe Photoshop CS5 multi-window crash fix for Windows 7

Also included in the new driver and hidden away in a secret file is support for ATI’s upcoming line-up of graphics cards totaling 35 new iterations. 11 of them appear to be for the new HD 6xxx series codenamed “Cayman”. However only 2 of them appear to be geared towards the home consumer market. Full list can be found here.

Now about that Lost Planet 2 benchmark
