COD: Black Ops Will Use Marketing For Massive Damage

Well, it’s not exactly surprising now is it? Hoping to capitalize on the successes of the title’s predecessors, Activision announced that they will invest even moar money into marketing the game during their latest investor conference call:

“This across the board, the biggest investment that we’ve ever made in a launch of a title”

Definitely within the old line of “$10 million to develop, $100 million to market” sort of strategy. Though perhaps a bit more depressing is what Blizzard chief Mike Morhaime had to say:

“I think one of the things I’d add also that’s important, we have gotten an incredible amount of benefit from… the way people are reacting to the downloadable content”

Which just screams $15 map packs all over again. Perhaps they’ll try $20 this time? Who knows? Whatever may happen, Activision sure isn’t letting Infinity Ward’s implosion shake them up. Considering Black Ops pre-orders have already surpassed the ones for Modern Warfare 2 in the same time period, they certainly have reason for being confident.
