Vietnam Severely Restricts Online Gaming

In a move that makes even Chinese regulations seem tame, Vietnam’s government has started a crackdown on youth entertainment. The regulations come as local media reports increases in the crime rate among juveniles and blames the sharp uptick on addiction to games.

Restrictions include a complete ban on online gaming advertisements, severance of internet access in businesses from 11 pm to 6 am, and immediate suspension of all new game licenses for 2010.

The Ministry of Information and Communications says it hopes to take down games that contain what they deem as pornography, violence, and gambling influences.
