Xbox Live Surpasses $1 Billion In Revenue

The Microsoft is hungry! feed moar money to the Microsoft!

It seems all those subscription fees and DLC has brought in quite a nice amount for everybody’s favorite software giant. According to Bloomberg it’s quite a catch:

Microsoft says about half the service’s 25 million users paid an annual fee to play games online like “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2” in the year ended June 30. That would be about $600 million. Sales of products like movie and TV show downloads topped subscription revenue for the first time…The remarks suggest the business generated more than $1.2 billion in sales last year, exceeding analysts’ estimates.

The subscription revenue may be skewed a bit given the plethora of Xbox Live subscription deals from places like Amazon and Newegg (assuming the retailers actually get a cut) as well as discrepancy from users that prefer buying one or three month subscriptions at a time.

We shall see how Sony does money-wise with their new Playstation Plus launched last month. Perhaps make Killzone 3 and Gran Turismo 5 multiplayer to be available for Plus members only?
