Considering Epic had no plans to continue the series further, it was a proper move. This time however, they didn’t purchase the actual studio like they did with Bungie, just the game franchise rights. Given the appeal of the series (the original Gears of War was not only a system seller, but an excellent tech demo for the Xbox 360) the choice seems pretty logical.
With this series in their portfolio, Microsoft’s Xbox One is set for shooters this generation with Titanfall and Halo as exclusives. Awesome.

Not sure how wise that was, considering that gears has run its course…
I agree. There was a very good reason Epic had no intentions of revisiting the series. It was done, they made some successful games and told a decent-to-poor (depending on the game) story.
I think the most recent game didn’t even do that well for sales if I recall correctly.
That’s not to say MS won’t make a good game though. I have some faith that they can manage that…but who will be excited for it?
yeah a good game, like MS flight….
They can make the first war if they want. Or they can make the pre-colonization wars. They can do a lot of things. It just won’t be gears any more. It will be aping the name.
