As expected, the specifications are all over the place. The 300 lucky few that will be chosen to participate in the beta program will receive machines that all can run today’s games relatively well:
The 300 prototype units will ship with the following components:
GPU: some units with NVidia Titan, some GTX780, some GTX760, and some GTX660
CPU: some boxes with Intel i7-4770, some i5-4570, and some i3
RAM: 16GB DDR3-1600 (CPU), 3GB GDDR5 (GPU)
Storage: 1TB/8GB Hybrid SSHD
Power Supply: Internal 450w 80Plus Gold
Dimensions: approx. 12 x 12.4 x 2.9 in high
Interesting to note that none of them contain any AMD hardware, most likely a nod to a need for improved AMD linux drivers. Naturally, no picture of a box has surfaced yet. Odds are, Mr. Newell hired some ninjas to do surveillance on the brave 300.

Have the 300 been chosen already? I thought that you had most of October to apply…
Ah yes, you’re right. Fixed!
🙂
Now I’ve never won anything in my life before, and I know getting this is like winning the lottery; But I REALLY want this haha.
Totally, me too mate!
450W PSU is the only worrying aspect. Hopefully it’s a quality brand and it should be fine….as long as no one goes nuts with trying to OC.
They say it’s gold+ No wonder really, since it’s supposed to run that kind of hardware. Anyway, doubt anyone would buy a steambox with overclocking and such in mind.
If it was that much cheaper compared to buying individual parts, I’d go for it and move it to a bigger case personally.
We know Valve is putting in Gold+ (only 80 though, not even 85 :/) but who knows who they’ll partner with.
And I’ve already seen one article where someone priced out (on amazon which to me is usually more than Newegg) equivalent PCs for DIY, and selected a Rosewill PSU because it’s cheap/450W/Gold80+. Ignoring the fact that….well it’s Rosewill.
