It’s CPU meets GPU meets laptop meets high end performance. APU or Accelerated Processing Unit, is what AMD calls a CPU with a on-die GPU solution (also known as Fusion). The new APUs combine a quad core CPU with an on-die 7000m series GPU, which packs some higher end performance. Check out this impressive CES demonstration.
As shown in the video above, these new A-Series APUs codenamed “Trinity” are capable of running multiple monitor setups, playing a 3D intensive DX11 game, converting a video file, and playing an HD movie all at the same time.

That is really impressive. It’ll be nice to finally see some laptops that can at least keep up with desktops. The real question though…is how painful is this new APU going to be to our wallets?
