LG 84″ UltraHD Resolution TV at CES

Are we ready to go beyond 1080p? Most television providers still broadcast in 1080i, and it was difficult enough to get the mainstream to finally understand and adopt 1080p displays. Now companies are looking to up resolutions once again. This LG display supports passive 3D technology and has a “4k” resolution (to be more precise, it’s actually 3840 by 2160 for 16:9 displays). That’s four times the number of pixels compared to 1080p (1920 by 1080). Hopefully we will see monitors adopt these higher resolutions as well.

The LG 84LM9600 LED TV will be available in the 3rd quarter of 2012, and will most likely cost an arm and a leg. But, it is nice to see companies are still working on higher resolution display technologies. Now, we just have to wait for 8k resolution displays.
