In an interview with Develop, Valve’s boss has stated that he is hopeful the situation with EA will be resolved amicably. As we have reported earlier, certain EA games have disappeared from Steam due to policy conflicts between Valve and EA. While originally stemming from DLC issues, many believe that this was simply EA’s attempt at pushing their new Origin platform out onto consumers.
Whatever the case maybe, Mr. Newell is undaunted and is focused on winning EA’s business back onto Steam:
“We have to show EA it’s a smart decision to have EA games on Steam, and we’re going to try to show them that. We really want to show there’s a lot of value having EA titles on Steam. We want EA’s games on Steam and we have to show them that’s a smart thing to do.
I think at the end of the day we’re going to prove to Electronic Arts they have happier customers, a higher quality service, and will make more money if they have their titles on Steam. It’s our duty to demonstrate that to them. We don’t have a natural right to publish their games.”
In otherwords, he is not pushing any special concessions for EA just to get them back, instead, he’ll probably try his best to make 70% look as big as possible.

would be better if we could actually get battlefield 3 on the steam game list instead of having to start up another ”steam”(origin), and on top of that starting up a browser cause of their battlelog ideas >.<
It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that origin being EA alone isn’t a good idea but without the said games being origin only, well the service has no hope of ever gaining ground since people will just turn on steam and go for it.
EA is hoping BF3 will be for origin what HL2 was for steam. Problem is, steam has been here for years and tons of people have got it running and even buying from it since it’s easy and it keeps them in touch with their friends already.
Quite an obstacle to overcome.
inb4 some service that aggregates Steam, Origin and whatever else digital game distribution service is coming.
At this point I will be forced to use Origin with Battlefield 3, but I don’t think EA has a shot to compete with Steam. Their problem now, however, is that if they decide to have their games both on Origin and Steam, I’m willing to bet that 90% of gamers will use Steam and Origin will fail. Removing all of their titles from Steam sucks, but that’s their only chance at making Origin survive.
