Natural disasters? Health? Pfft, my digital possessions are far more important.
One of the more interesting things to appear in the MMO sphere today is Sunshine Insurance’s new business deal with Gamebar to offer an insurance policy on in-game items, such as property or currency. Supposedly, the deal emerged after many of China’s 300 million gamers were complaining of loss of virtual items via theft/scams or possible server error.
The insurance would then compensate the game company for reimbursement of the item cost, lowering operating risks. Given the sheer volume of players, it’s understandable why simply tracking the items may unfeasible.
Perhaps EVE online might consider putting some insurance on their $68 monocles as well.

lol
the really sad thing is not that they make this business, it’s that there are enough stupid people to actually make a contract.
lol indeed
I couldn’t agree more BeZki. Props to the guys who came up with that idea though…I’m sure they are going to make a quick fortune.
I never thought there would be a market for this… wow.
