Mass Effect 3 Delayed Until 2012

Allegedly so Electronic Arts can create a larger market opportunity. Well, it just had to happen. The much anticipated final installment in the Mass Effect trilogy has been delayed until the first quarter of 2012. What’s interesting though, is the reason why it was delayed. According to Joystiq, at an investor meeting, CEO John Riccitiello said that the delay was to adjust game mechanics so that they could cater the title to a larger market.

“Essentially, step by step, [BioWare is] adjusting some of the gameplay mechanics and some of the features that you’ll see at E3 that can put this into a genre equivalent of shooter-meets-RPG, and essentially address a far larger market opportunity than Mass Effect 1 did and Mass Effect 2 began to approach.”

Well… that’s, umm, that’s fabulous. Yes. Fabulous.
