Call of Duty: Black Ops has sold better than MW 2 and the game’s launch has been declared the biggest entertainment launch ever. Modern Warfare 2 made $310 million in 24 hours and Call of Duty Black OPs made $360 million in one day. On the PC side we reported that it was number two on the steam top 10 list. However, the week after it was number one on the steam top 10. Of course it is also a huge game on the 360 and PS3.
Some individuals claim that there are just too many Call of Duty games and the franchise is getting stale. Unfortunately for them, these sales beg to differ. As you can imagine Bobby Kotick’s optimism has remained the same
There has never been another entertainment franchise that has set opening day records for two consecutive years and we are on track to outperform last year’s five-day global sales record of $550 million. The game’s success underscores the pop culture appeal of the brand. Call of Duty: Black Ops is the finest game that Treyarch has ever made and raises the bar for online gameplay by delivering the deepest and most intense Call of Duty experience yet. The Call of Duty franchise has over 25 million players around the world that are engaged in billions of hours of online gameplay, and we are committed to supporting them with new content and features on a more frequent and regular basis.
Yep, it doesn’t look like the Call of Duty franchise will be going away anytime soon. Let’s just hope they don’t start charging $70 per game or $20 for map packs.
