In an effort to energize their low end mobile products, Intel is ditching the well known atom brand. Some individuals feel that they could switch to the Pentium brand instead. Furthermore, in the next few years, Intel plans to transition its Celeron, Pentium, and core i3 line to the BGA (ball-grid array) package. The BGA socket will help with efficiency and temperature. So, this could also be a replacement for atom entirely.

I feel that this is a good move on Intel’s part. Unfortunately, the Atom brand was stigmatized during the whole netbook craze. Henceforth, Atom has been associated with lowend performance. So, a name other than Atom, Pentium, et al would be acceptable.
Every time I think of pentium I think of single core stuff that run hotter than hell. 😛 Still, atom never really became a big hit. Hell I’ve heard of snapdragon more often than atom.
Yeah, I feel the same way when it comes to the Pentium brand. I was actually using an AMD FX processor when the Pentiums were still around. Pentiums performed worse, ran hotter, and cost more when compared to AMD’s products at the time.
Same here. I was a big fan of athlons at the time. Core2duos were the big game changer for the cpu market really. Ever since then AMD has been struggling to keep up and then they stopped bothering even 😛
