The $399 Dig at Microsoft

Sony 1995 E3

The undercut of $100 for the PlayStation 4 largely resembles something that happened 18 years ago. While the audience cheered during Jack Tretton’s take on used games (a bit sad too, as this stuff should be standard), another roar came along when it was announced the PlayStation 4 was to be priced at $399, a full $100 less than the $499 Xbox One.

For those that know a bit of gaming history, this very closely parallels another dig that Sony did during E3 1995 when they were locked in combat with Sega. Just after Sega announced their Saturn was on sale immediately for $399 (much to the shock of audience members, and rage of some retailers), Sony did this little one-upper:

I love history.
