At a JP Morgan’s Technology, Media & Telecom Conference, Tami Reller, the CMO and CFO of Microsoft’s Windows Division revealed more details about Windows 8.1 aka Window Blue. This new Update to Windows 8 will bring a variety of user interface improvements and MS is beginning to paint a clearer picture. Windows 8.1 will be a free update with a preview on June 26th. However, the preview build will not contain the full changes and this is where the rumors step in.
According to rumors surrounding the so far lackluster Windows 8 adoption rate compared to Vista, combined with the fact that MS themselves have admitted some of their own shortcomings with the OS, there is still a chance the final update will bring back the start menu and provide a an option to boot to desktop. Furthermore, this update will be for the ARM and x86/x64 versions of their OS, which means MS doesn’t plan on abandoning their tablet initiative just yet.
