Google To Drop Webkit in Favor of Blink

Google is planning to move on to a new rendering engine called Blink for their Chrome web browser. Blink will actually be Google’s own open source rendering engine that it has developed. However, the new rendering engine will still be loosely based on Webkit and it will allow for more flexibility, speed, and simplicity. Furthermore, Google states that it was a pain to work on Webkit and conform to other WebKit partner’s standards as it was slowing their team down.

Interestingly enough, the story does not end with Google. The folks behind the Opera browser are also working with Google to develop Blink. So, this means that future versions of both Opera and Chrome may utilize Blink.
