The leap from Tegra 3 to Tegra 4 is going to be quite monumental, and Nividia is ready to deliver this significant jump in performance to smartphones and tablets. That’s right Nvidia’s next offering is going to be a heavy hitter. This comes as a bit of a surprise considering desktop GPUs have yet to see such a jump in performance over the past few years. To put this into perspective the Tegra 3 had only 12 CUDA cores (the Tegra 4 has 6x this amount). This means that the charts that Nvidia has shown last year may have some merit.

The new 28nm SoC is able to support 4K resolutions, HDR rendering, support 4G LTE, and will offer a 45% decrease in power consumption when compared to the Tegra 3. So, this means that the Tegra 4 is not only more powerful than the Tegra 3, but it is also significantly more power efficient. Additionally, the Tegra 4 outpaces the current competition in a test that loads 25 different web pages. The competition loaded the pages in 57 seconds while the Tegra 4 was able to load the pages in 27 seconds.
