AMD will use ARM’s processor designs within its future CPU architectures. The company will embed the ARM Cortex-A5 processor within their upcoming CPUs for security features. However, it is certainly possible that they will licence more powerful ARM processors and use more and more of ARM within their CPU architecture. So, this may be a trend that AMD is just beginning.
The products that will use this licensed technology include: desktop, server, tablet, and smart phone based processors. All of which will start rolling out by the end of 2013.

I’m kind of wondering what the benefit of this is. I’m sure there is one, but I’m not that knowledgeable.
If I not mistaken, the idea is to use a low cost, low power design that performs a certain functionality (in this case security) for the microprocessor. So, it will act as sort of a co-processor that is embedded within the CPU, which will free up resources for the main processor while adding this additional functionality.
