In the wave of E3 announcements, some bad news has unfortunately surfaced. Electronic Arts has confirmed to Kotaku that SimCity 5 will require a constant internet connection to play the game, even single player.
The reasoning, as EA put it and echoing Blizzard, is that it’s a multiplayer game which tracks your stats like pollution and whatnot and feeds it to other SimCity 5 players. In otherwords, “it’s multiplayer” is the new lame excuse for implementing this awful form of DRM.
However, EA assures us that they are carefully monitoring a certain other game’s always-on DRM troubles and will provide countermeasures such as a time/disconnect buffer to prevent such an occurrence. I’d rather they’d go back to just requiring Origin.
Yeah. I’ll pass.

Wait so everything will be done server side here too or what??? Can’t they just let multiplayer be multiplayer? Like allow everyone to make their city “global” or something so they can have trade and so on, instead of forcing the always on bull?
At least I guess you won’t risk losing your city when you get lag. lol
