Companies love to rebrand old products and confuse consumers. Marketing is such a gold mine isn’t it? Both ATI and nvidia have been doing the same sort of rename and release marketing. While, we are talking about nvidia let’s remember the good old 8 series. The 8800gts 512mb was renamed to the 9800gtx, which later became known as the gts250. Nvidia also has a fair share of mobile rebranding in addition to desktop rebranding. Well, now that we are done poking at nvidia, it’s ATI’s turn.
Ah, the sweet mobile platform. It is a beautiful land of rebranded GPUs. You never really know what you may get. You know the 4 series mobile right? Wrong! Get used to the 5v series!
AMD seems to be renaming the Radeon HD Mobility 4000 Series to Radeon HD 500v. Three “new” cards can be found at AMDs-website:
* ATI Mobility Radeon HD 560v Series Graphics
* ATI Mobility Radeon HD 540v Series Graphics
* ATI Mobility Radeon HD 530v GraphicsThe 560v uses an RV730 and is equal to a Radeon HD Mobility 4670
The 540v and 530v use a RV710 and seem to be euqal to Mobility Radeon HD 4500 and 4300.
