Remedy took a bit of a gamble by going on their own to produce the PC version of the game, but in the end it seemed to have worked out very well for the company. Fortunately, the company went about the PC version in a smart way. The game was priced at a reasonable $30 and it used Steam without tying the game to any other form of DRM. As a result, Remedy has recouped all of its marketing and development expenses in just 48 hours.
Perhaps this just goes to show that if you take your time and wisely price your product in a specific market things can turn out for the better. Aki ‘AJ’ Järvilehto, Remedy’s EVP was very pleased when he stated the following:
I wanted to chime in here. We are very happy with the sales and hitting #1 on Steam at launch was nothing short of amazing. We recouped our development and marketing expenses during the first 48 hours. And yes, we’re certainly very excited about PC.
Maybe this new excitement will lead to PC gamers getting the American Nightmare DLC sooner than expected. Or perhaps Remedy will argue for PC gamers in future ventures when dealing with the monolithic Microsoft.

I am personally hoping this will lead to Gears of Wars PC (bugless of course).
I agree 100%. I would love to see games like Gears of War 2 and 3 hit the PC. Hopefully this success of Alan Wake PC will show developers that there is a market for ports (as well as room for profit) and will push them to make release bugless PC versions of games like this and sell them for reasonable prices.
Epic doesn’t care about PC gamers they will never bother.
Anyway good for Remedy. It’s great to see that they got good support for doing this. I picked the game up, but haven’t played it yet. Too busy working on playing ME2 again.
