There’s a disturbing rumor floating about regarding the future of Id Software’s Doom 4. Kotaku reports that an insider has contacted them with some bad news. Their source claims that a “company wide” meeting at id Software was held and it was decided that Doom 4 will be postponed indefinitely.
Additionally, the source continued to state that this decision came to fruition because of various issues and mixed reviews related to Id’s latest game RAGE, which resulted in “a serious lack of confidence in the project management at id”. Is Doom 4 really Doomed? Fortunately, as it stands, this is a rumor. Hopefully, someone at Zenimax or ID can clear things up for everyone soon.
Rumor Smash
It’s time for another rumor to be smashed. It turns out that Doom 4 is not indefinitely postponed. Pete Hines, VP of PR and marketing at Bethesda stated that Kotaku’s report was “complete bollocks.” He then continued with a more comprehensive explanation:
Re: DOOM 4 rumor, games are done when they are done and no title under development at id has been postponed – indefinitely or otherwise.

A lack of confidence in the management at id? I hope so. RAGE is a fucking disaster on the PC. Carmack telling PC gamers we don’t matter anymore isn’t helping.
‘Disaster’ is a little extreme isn’t it? I mean, sure, it isn’t up to the standard of other devs recently, and certainly not up to the standard that we’d expect from id… but aside from the AMD driver issues at launch, it’s not been horrendous, has it?
It wasn’t just AMD Tino, I assume you haven’t even played the game or you wouldn’t be asking. Disaster is putting it lightly, unacceptable is a more appropriate word.
Yeah I’ve been playing the game and honestly haven’t come across any issues. Yeah, they should’ve provided more graphics options, but I think it looks and plays great overall – so I’m not hugely worried about that. there’s always the console or GPU control panel if I need extra options.
The fact that we even had to ask for something remotely resembling proper graphics settings says everything really. id no longer cares about PC gamers and it shows. I paid $30 for Rage and I still feel ripped off, even if the gameplay can be enjoyable at times.
It turns out the rumor is false. Pete hines at Bethesda confirmed that Doom 4 is still in development.
I’m not to concerned, i’d deal with the sate of rage if they owned up to it. but instead Carmack just said PC is no longer important.
