Ex IW Employees Form Respawn Entertainment with EA

The ongoing battle rages on as the creators of the Call of Duty franchise, Jason West and Vince Zampella, form a new studio called Respawn Entertainment under EA. Currently, not a lot is known about what projects they plant to work on, but one can definitely speculate that thier future project may be something similar to Call of Duty.

“Respawn Entertainment marks a fresh start for Jason and me,” Zampella said in a statement. “For the past decade we led a great development team and poured our hearts into creating an epic game franchise. We’re very proud of what we built – and proud that so many millions of fans enjoyed those games. Today we hope to do it all over again — open a new studio, hire a great team, and create brand new games with a new partner, EA.”

“We’re excited,” West said. “Now that the team is in control of the games and brands, we can ensure that the fans are treated as well as they deserve.”

While West and Zampella’s experience has recently involved military first-person shooters, including EA’s Medal of Honor series, which they worked on prior to handling Call of Duty and Modern Warfare for Activision, they offered no details on the new game.

In addition, Activision isn’t phased at all. In fact, they are confident that Infinity Ward still has the upper hand in terms of game development.

This agreement comes as no surprise to Activision given the myriad of improper activities detailed in the cross-complaint filed on Friday against Jason West and Vince Zampella. We look forward to continuing to work with Infinity Ward’s deep bench of proven talent on exciting new projects.

Let’s also give a special shout out to PS member Lordalfan who beat me to the punch (ouch).
