Crysis 2 DX11 Patch Detailed

As promised, Crytek will release the highly anticipated DX11 patch for Crysis 2. The DX11 API will make use of “hardware tessellation (requires the installation of the “Tessellation Package”), parallax occlusion mapping and several improvements for shadows, water, particles, depth of field and motion blur.” However, both DX11 and DX9 will benefit from the new Ultra setting, which enables realtime local reflections and contacts shadows.

The DX11 Ultra Upgrade is a free visual improvement add-on introducing DirectX 11 support as well as a wealth of graphical improvements and performance optimization for both DX11 and DX9 API’s.

When using the new “Ultra” spec, DX9 platforms will beneficiate from realtime local reflections and contacts shadows. The owners of DX11 platforms, in addition, will be able to enjoy hardware tessellation (requires the installation of the “Tessellation Package”), parallax occlusion mapping and several improvements for shadows, water, particles, depth of field and motion blur.

The tessellation pack as well as a high resolution texture pack are both separate downloads. If you want to check them out be sure to head on over to the mycrysis website for the download links.

Furthermore, Steam users will also get the patch. Community manager Cry-Adamn puts those concerns to rest.

Yep, existing Steam copies are still the same, it’s only new purchases that can’t currently be made.
