droid 2 seems nice since droid x's hardware got downgraded.... at least now there's a difference in hardware between droid x and droid 2 lol.
The X didn't get downgraded.

coulda sworn that its original specs was a 1 ghz proc and 512mb ram.
nvm lol. apparently it was the european version that had the downclocked processor and reduced ram.
but why would someone get the Droid X when Droid 2 with a lot superior hardware is right around the corner???
Droid vs Droid x vs Droid 2 :/ proc: 600mhz vs 720 mhz vs 1 ghz ram: 256 mb vs 512mb vs 512 mb Screen: 3.7 @ 480x853 vs 3.7 @ 480x853 vs 3.7 (presumed to be same resolution) camera: 5 mpx + LED flash vs 8 mpx + dual LED flash vs 5 mpx (regardless, the sensor on droid and droid x is average at best... pictures are meh for a smartphone, let's see if moto can break out of them having a mediocre camera with droid 2) Input method: qwerty + touchscreen vs touchscreen vs qwerty + touch screen OS: 2.1 w/ update in Q3 vs 2.1 w/ 2.2 by mid august vs 2.2 shipped in mid augus
seems to me that the droid x was outdated in most aspects before it came out :/ a good phone though, just the hardware seems on the low end for a high end smartphone for this year at least...

Only if you're buying it outside of the US. In the US the only difference is going to be the keyboard, which I honestly don't care about. The X meets recommended specs for Gingerbread (1GHz and 512 RAM) which may or may not release by the end of the year. Maybe by than people will have figured out how to load custom ROMs on it so I don't have to wait however long for Motorola to release it with all of their crapware included.

the X doesn't meet the recommended specs. it's only got a 720mhz proc.

No it does not. It runs at 1GHz.

-_- motorola's handsets look all the same. was mistaking another one that looks almost the same for the droid x lol (since i use a european sites for phone shit...)
and i wonder how TI CPU stacks up against the snapdragon and Hummingbird in terms of performance...

Ah, thats understandable.
Dunno. I've heard that potentially it could perform better, but I haven't seen any hard tests on it yet. If its anything like the TI CPU in the Droid 1 however it will overclock like a dream.

but what's the point of overclocking in a phone. the interface is basically smooth with no lag when you scroll around in it, the performance in games is already great, the only thing that overclocking would do is drain the battery faster and make it hotter lol. it might load apps a bit faster lol.
(unless you're trying to run quake 3 or something even more demanding. but those are more gpu limited than cpu.)
would be nice if there was a app that overclocked it only when you're running certain apps or something though lol.

Sure it works great now, but what about in two years?

that's why i said app based overclocking. the regular ui and normal functions is basically smooth as it's gonna get (other than the few pauses sometimes). there's zero benefit to things like browsing the internet, watching videos, listen to music etc from the overclocked cpu. the only thing that will get more demanding is the apps. and a lot of that is limited more to the developers more than anything on the android platform right now. the main reason for the cpu race in the last few years imo was because the interface itself was laggy/slow/unpolished and prone to frequent pauses for loading. but basically all of the high end phones are already achieve that mark (except a few)
and from the 1ghz and on point, might as well as make a smartbook out of it since it's reaching the specs of netbooks nowadays. phones really doesn't need that much power unless they develop more efficient chips that'll retain the battery life even when offering better performance :/ even the best of the phones in battery life (Samsung wave, Samsung Galaxy S and iphone 4) only lasts heavy users 2 days at the most... not even mentioning the other power hungry phones lol *cough* EVO 4G *cough*
i'm not saying that the hardware won't get more powerful, just that it's unnecessary if it comes at the expense of battery life if it's overclocked (not to mention bottle necked by the gpu in 2 years time)
even a overclocked droid is performing piss poor against some of the current gen high end phones because of the gpu limitation :/
looking forward to the day w/ console graphics on phones lol.

but who needs hulu app when you got real hulu and i wonder if they'll modify the OLED screen or not... otherwise you literally can't see anything in the bright sun lol.
and lol @ dell. they make shitty computers but good phones. go figure lol.
Hurray for more shitty custom UIs. At least the Droid X has a mostly stock UI with only a little Motoblur annoyance. Wish all phones were like the N1, a completwly stock UI without extra crapware.
